The AKC is proud to recognize AKC Breeders who are dedicated to breeding beautiful purebred dogs whose appearance, temperament, and ability are true to their breed. Exhibition breeders are serious, dedicated specialist motivated to breed dogs for the pleasure and thrill of producing the finest specimens possible – healthy in body, mind and personality. They look after the health, legal matters and financial concerns related to their breeding program. This type of expert breeds first of all for themselves. He/She is looking for young hopefuls who will do credit to his/her line in the show ring. The sale of puppies doesn’t constitute his/her livelihood. In this environment puppies are raised with skilled attention to proper health care and socialization. These babies are an exhibitor breeder’s pride and joy.
Time and space prevent the exhibition breeder from keeping all puppies; and he/she will periodically offer puppies as pets. Availability is periodic, because each litter is planned and attention focused on raising each puppy in a litter.
An exhibition breeder wants his puppies to go to a stable, caring home, willing to take on the responsibility of dog ownership. He/she will explain the terms of sale carefully, and encourage you to immediately take your new pup to a veterinarian for a complete examination. He/She will expect you to keep the breeder informed on the health and progress of the puppy, and remains available for advise. You will receive expert guidance on how to raise, train, and register your Brussels Griffon with the American Kennel Club.
